JOINING THE MAVERICK BATTALION


Whether you're in high school, college, or already enlisted in the Army, you can start your journey to becoming an Officer right now. 

Follow the steps outlined below to Enroll in the ARMY ROTC program at the University of Texas at Arlington an Join the Maverick Battalion.

Remember that you can take Army ROTC Basic Courses without a military commitment, yet still reap the benefits of becoming a cadet.

STEP 1: LEARN ABOUT ARMY ROTC.

 Consider all the information provided in this website as well as the ARMY ROTC website. Talk with anyone you know who is an officer in the Army and/or has participated in the Army ROTC program.  Make sure you meet the eligibility requirements.
  

STEP 2: If you are

A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTand want to apply for a four-year scholarship.

Make sure you are familiar with the Four-Year Scholarship requirements.  It is best if you start the process during your Junior year.  Apply for your scholarship either on-line or by mail.  Contact the Enrollment and Scholarship Officer for your interview during the fall of your Senior Year.  You will also be required to pass a Department of Defense Medical Review Board (DoDMERB) examination and a Physical Fitness Test.  GOOD LUCK IN YOUR SATs or ACTs.
    

IN COLLEGE ALREADY OR A TRANSFER STUDENT AND WANT TO APPLY FOR A 3-YEAR OR 2-YEAR SCHOLARSHIP

Download the ROTC Campus-based scholarship packet and fill it out.  Contact the enrollment officer an email a copy of the completed packet.  Make sure you keep a copy for yourself.

IF YOU ARE A COLLEGE SOPHOMORE,
CONTACT THE ENROLLMENT OFFICER  IMMEDIATELY!  YOU MAY NEED TO ATTEND THE SUMMER LEADERSHIP TRAINING COURSE BEFORE YOU BEGIN ADVANCE ROTC COURSES.
    

AN ENLISTED SOLDIER APPLY FOR THE GREEN-TO-GOLD PROGRAM

The Army Green to Gold program is designed to offer Enlisted Soldiers in the Army the opportunity to earn a commission as an Army Officer. Deadline for packet submission is April 1st.

STEP 3: IF NOT ALREADY THERE, APPLY AND GET ACCEPTED AT ONE OF THE PARTICIPATING COLLEGES.

The University of Texas at Arlington is the Maverick Battalion host school, however, you can still enroll in the program if you attend one of our partner schools.  Visit the links under participating schools for specific registration information in the individual schools.

If not already DoDMERB medically qualified go to your school health clinic and get a medical check-up.  Download the Medical Fitness Statement (DA 3425), this is part of the packet that you will download in step 6 and pre-fill as much as you can before you get to the clinic.  UTA cadets do not have to pay for it since it is covered in your lab fees.  Non-UTA cadets may have to pay for it in-lieu of lab fees.

Either mail, fax, email (scan), or bring the form to the enrollment officer.  Make sure you keep a copy for yourself.
             

STEP 4: FILL OUT THE ROTC ENROLLMENT FORMS

All the forms have been packaged in one excel workbook.  Make sure you fill the appropriate worksheets.  Rename the worksheet with your "last name, first name, middle initial", save a copy and email the workbook to the enrollment officer.

1.  Download the Application-Workbook.  Save it in your local hard drive and change the filename to: Your LastName, FirstName-yyyymmdd.

2.  Fill out the workbook starting with the 1st tab “Step-1-Cover pg & info #1” with your name, etc.

3.  Fill out the each of the next tabs in order Step 2 then Step 3, then the 104R degree plan.

4.  Print it, save your copy, and email the digital file to LTC Smith or the Gold bars.

Once received and reviewed, you will be directed to do a few more steps.

The Cadet Actions Branch will help you with the following:

5.  Start your Security Clearance

6.  Fill the Briefing on Government Briefings (CC-136-R)

7.   Fill the Authorization for Access of Student records (CC 137-R)

8.  Fill the Medical Exam if you do not have a DoDMERB medical already (CC 3425)

9.  Fill the DoDMERB Medical History Report if you do not have a DoDMERB medical already (CC 2492)

The Training Section will help you with the following:

10.   Taking the APFT before the semester starts (CC 137-R)

The Commandant of Cadets will help you with the following:

11.  Fill the Planned Academic Program Worksheet (CC 104-R)


 

 

 

If you are beginning Advanced ROTC, are a scholarship winner, or are ready to contract as a non-scholarship sophomore make sure you are familiar with the contracting requirements and commitment and fill out the appropriate forms.
